Detect the xpMCE and Remote Experience in Client Side JScript

Here is a bit of client side code allowing a developer to detect the Media Center version and where the end user is viewing the experience (at the Media Center PC, Media Center Extender or Remote Desktop Connection). The code uses the MediaCenter.MajorVersion property and the MediaCenter.Capabilities object.

The most common usage of this code is to determine if your application is running in a Media Center Extender session, where you might need to narrow the content choices (you have fewer codec options). Applications which need to run a setup program for components will need to inform the user of this in a Media Center Extender session so the user can return to the Media Center PC to perform the installation.

Download the sample code and MCL from here, place the HTML and MCL file in C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Accessories\Media Center\Media Center Programs\ and launch from More Programs from the Media Center PC, Media Center Extender or Media Center running inside a Remote Desktop session on another PC.
