inControl now also has support for Windows 7!

Full support for Windows 7 has been added in inControl Server v1.0.5 which is now available for download here. It requires the program information to be manually configured and detailed instructions can be found here.

In addition to the already existing support for Vista and Windows 7, inControl Server v1.0.6 (available for download here) now also adds support for TV Pack 2008! Just as for Windows 7, the program information must be manually configured and detailed instructions can be found here.

I've been working on a project for some time now with the goal of getting the user in total control of a Windows Media Center oriented TV setup. The solution I have developed is called inControl and it turns your iPhone/iPod Touch into a very capable WMC remote focusing on the TV parts. It does not only enable the possibility to control Windows Media Center, but also any peripherals, such as TV, projector, and/or receiver, connected to the WMC PC by a serial cable (RS-232). I write this post hoping that more WMC users discover this application and its great capabilities!

Some examples of supported functionality:

• Inbuilt TV guide to avoid the hassle of browsing the WMC guide using cursor keys

• Browse, delete, and start to view recorded programs
  
• Browse and delete scheduled recordings

Note that the inControl solution uses WiFi or 3G for connecting the iPhone to the PC and that it supports Vista, Vista TV Pack 2008, and Windows 7.

Tach zusammen,

ich habe das nun bei mir installiert und eingerichtet. Hard- und Software: Win 7 64-bit MediaCenter mit Iphone 3GS IOS 4.0 und Incontrol v2.1. Installiert habe ich das ganze anhand der Anleitung der Anbieter-Homepage, was sehr gut beschrieben und einfach umzusetzen ist. Zu beachten ist, sofern das ganze auch über 3G also die Mobilfunkverbindung laufen soll, dass der Punkt 2 der Anleitung übersprungen werden muss und stattdessen eine TCP-Portfreigabe erfolgen muss. Das ist auch am Anfang der Anleitung beschrieben, jedoch ist dieser Kniff leicht zu überlesen, da er vor dem Punkt 1. erwähnt wird.

Zur Anwendung:
Es läuft perfekt. Die Verbindung zum MC wird sofort hergestellt und man kann seine Aufzeichzeichnungen auf dem Iphone durchstöbern, von dort aus am MC starten und löschen. Darüber hinaus kann man seine EPG Daten auf das Iphone laden und von dort aus Infos zu den einzelnen Sendungen sehen und Aufnahmen einstellen und durch klich auf die Sendung direkt umschalten. Das Layout der Programmübersicht ist etwas gewöhnungsbedürftig (s. Screenshots des Anbieters) und das einlesen der Senderlogos ist etwas zeitaufwendig, da dies manuell geschehen muss, aber dennoch ist das eine durchaus gebrauchbare Angelegenheit! Darüber hinaus gibt es eine sehr gut und ohne Verzögerung funktionierende Fernbedienungsfunktion mit den wichtigsten MC Tasten (Stopp Play Pause Vor Zurück Lautstärke usw.) und ein Mouse-Trackpad, welches jedoch sehr hakelig läuft.

Fazit: Perfekt (mit kleinen Abstrichen bei der Trackpad-Funktion und der etwas ungewöhnlichen Programmübersicht). Ich kann diese Anwendung empfehlen, die 1,59 € sind es auf jeden Fall wert.
